Salt Packed Pig Sack

LOCATION: Hound's Hump Ridge (across from Cannon Cliff), Franconia Notch, NH
ROUTE: Salt Packed Pig Sack
TYPE: Trad
PITCHES: One
GRADE: 5.8
RACK: Small to medium gear, four bolts
GUIDEBOOK:  Secrets of the Notch by John Sykes, page 166
ASSETS: Fun, gym-like face climbing; survey Franconia Notch from an eagle's perspective.

DESCRIPTION: The route takes a direct line up the middle of the First Flatiron. Positive, horizontal edges lead to good rest stances on this sheer, exposed face. Lichen, wind, and the odd loose hold give an alpine feeling to this accessible climb. When you get to the top, enjoy the incredible vantage point as you belay up your partner.

This route alone is well worth the half-hour approach, but there is plenty of other stuff to climb in the vicinity. Check out John Syke's Secrets of the Notch for more information.
